چکیده

Adapted finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) update equations exist for a number of objects that are smaller than the grid step, such as wires and thin slots. In this contribution we provide a technique that automatically generates new FDTD update equations for small objects. Our presentation will be focussed on 2-D-FDTD. We start from the FDTD equations in a fine grid where the time derivative is not discretised. This yields a large state-space model that is drastically reduced with a reduced order modeling technique., The reduced state-space model is then translated into new FDTD update equations that can be used in an FDTD simulation in the same way as the existing update equations for wires and thin slots. This technique is applied to a number of numerical problems showing the accuracy and versatility of the proposed method.

Reduced order multiport modelling via Laguerre-SVD and its application to FDTD

In this contribution we first briefly introduce a new Reduced Order Modelling (ROM) algorithm based on the decomposition of the system transfer matrix into orthogonal scaled Laguerre functions. This new technique overcomes the difficulty of unstabilities at low frequencies often experienced with other ROM techniques. Next, we propose a new approach to automatically derive subcell models for 2D ...

Automatic Generation of Subdomain Models in 2-D FDTD Using Reduced Order Modeling

A new method combining a finite difference method and a reduced order model (ROM) algorithm is presented for twodimensional (2-D) electromagnetic problems. The problem space is subdivided into subdomains of a generic type. By discretizing the spatial derivatives in a way similar to the finite-difference in time-domain technique (FDTD), the state equations are written down in each subdomain. Fro...

A New Technique for Accurate and Stable Modeling of Arbitrarily Oriented Thin Wires in the FDTD Method

A subcell model for thin wires in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method using modified telegraphers equations has been developed by Holland et al. In this paper we present an extension of their algorithm, which allows arbitrarily located and oriented wires with respect to the Cartesian grid. This is important to be able to accurately model wires that cannot be aligned to the Cartesian...

The most commonly used method for the time-domain Maxwell equations is the FiniteDifference Time-Domain method (FDTD). This is an explicit, second-order accurate method, which is used on a staggered C...

A Study of Electromagnetic Radiation from Monopole Antennas on Spherical-Lossy Earth Using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method

Radiation from monopole antennas on spherical-lossy earth is analyzed by the finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) method in spherical coordinates. A novel generalized perfectly matched layer (PML) has been developed for the truncation of the lossy soil. For having an accurate modeling with less memory requirements, an efficient "non-uniform" mesh generation scheme is used. Also in each time step...
